Polyesters include naturally occurring chemicals and synthetics produced through step-growth polymerization. Depending on the chemical structure, polyester can be a thermoplastic or thermoset. Industrial polyester fibers, yarns and ropes are used in tire reinforcements, fabrics for conveyor belts, safety belts, coated fabrics and plastic reinforcements with high-energy absorption. Polyesters are also used to make plastic bottles, films, filters, film insulation for wire and insulating tapes. In addition, polyesters are widely used as a finish on high-quality wood products such as guitars, pianos and vehicle interiors. Thixotropic properties of sprayapplicable polyesters make them well suited for use on open-grain timbers, as they can quickly fill wood grain with a durable film thickness per coat. Cured polyesters can be sanded and polished to a high-gloss creating durable finish that is both chemical and abrasion resistant.
SNP has multiple products in our synthetic polyester series. Specifically, S-1610-L, S-1615-L, S-1620-L and S-1625-L have been formulated as water and grease resistant barrier coatings. We also produce diethylene glycol adipates for use in the coatings and adhesives industry. Let us formulate a polyester for your specific application.
