SNP provides paper coating solutions for companies worldwide, and offers two types of products.
The first type is sodium alginate, which provides the necessary rheological and water-holding properties for good paper coating runability. The strong hydrophilic properties provide excellent water holding properties for high solids coating. Water holding prevents dewatering under the coating blade, which can result in scratching and streaking.
As excellent surface sizing agents, Sodium Alginates reduce porosity. They can be used to improve grease resistance, water resistance, and solvent holdout. Alginates are superb film formers that improve ink holdout and printability. Coater drying rates can also be controlled to provide better surface uniformity, resulting in less binder migration. This leads to smoother printing surfaces with fewer defects and better ink receptivity.
SNP also offers four different types of rheology modifiers that have excellent thickening and water-retention characteristics.
These products, found in our S-1700 Series, are desirable for paper coating applications with automated color make down systems, because they are low viscosity liquids that can be easily metered into a coating formulation.
