Minimizing Single-Use Plastic Consumables

Recent media attention on the issues of single-use plastic consumables is bringing to light the problems SNP Inc. has been adamantly addressing since its inception in 1968. Since SNP’s earliest days, its mission has been to promote and utilize green chemistries in any and all applications pertinent to its customers.

For the last 5 years SNP’s technical experts have focused on chemistries to address the issues of single-use plastic consumables and their replacement with green, renewable alternatives. Current “green” products, such as paper cups, are said to be recyclable, however, synthetic (non-renewable) plastic materials are still present. While these products are recyclable, which is a small step forward as compared to an all plastic cup, the next step in protecting the environment is to move to all-natural renewable products.

SNP Inc. is proud to be a pioneer in this field with our newest product line of bioplastic coatings. SNP’s bioplastic (polyhydroxyalkanoate, PHA) coatings are 100% green and made from naturally occurring materials. These products can be recycled, composted and are marine degradable. Single use consumables made using these coatings provide the industry with a much needed replacement to synthetics and will help to build a more green and sustainable future.
